Moldova’s government ousted, Ecuador and Sudan removed from FATF blacklist, Doing Business 2016 and more

  • Ecuador and Sudan were removed from the Financial Action Taskforce’s money-laundering blacklist following the latest round of inspections and a plenary decision last week.

  • Moldova’s government was ousted on Thursday after week-long anti-corruption protests and a political scandal over the disappearance of $1bn from the country’s bank.

  • The World Bank this week published the 2016 Doing Business report. Singapore comes in first in the ease of doing business with New Zealand, Denmark, South Korea and Hong Kong also in the top 5. The UK and US rank 6th and 7th. Kazakhstan and Kenya are amongst the jurisdictions that have improved the most since 2015.

And finally, the Court of Justice decision to overrule the EU Safe Harbour Agreement continues to receive widespread media attention with commentators asking about the implications for compliance investigations and data collection.
